Rio Samba Parade Carnival Results 2011

The Rio Samba Parade has ten categories serviced by 4 Judges each making up to 40 Judges in which the schools are judged.

Housed in the Sambadrome booths, the Judges scores on a scale of 7 to 10 with 10 being the highest. The following are the results

Just before the Brazilian carnival we announced that 3 of the Samba Schools (Portela, Uniao da Ilha and Grande Rio) lost some of their work through the Samba City fire, however they were alloweto take part in the Parade in the Sambadrome but it was agreed they will not be judged this year.

Samba City Fire and Its Three Victims

The victims of the fire which damaged some of their costumes and floats were allowed to take part in this year's Samba Parade without being judged. Results were counted and announced in the Apotheoses Square on Ash Wednesday, just after Carnival.

The normal practise is that any of the group with the lowest score will be dropped from the main 12 Special Groupss into the Access Group (Group A) and the Access Group's champion joins the Special Group for the following year. Because of the fire. which damaged the three groups (Portela, Uniao da Ilha and Grande Rio), none of the schools will be dropped off but the champion from the Access group will join the 12 Special groups which means 2012 competition will have 13 sambab Schools.

Trinidad's Couva Carnival Gets More Coins

The Couva Carnival Committee has received a major boost for its activities for next year’s carnival celebrations with the assurance that it will receive an increase in its allocation from the National Carnival Commission (NCC). This guarantee was given by NCC Vice Chairman, Don Sylvester, at the 2011 Prize Distribution and Appreciation Function which was held at the SIS auditorium, Pt. Lisas, Couva.
